I am sure we have all been there, that gurgly feeling in the pit of your stomach and nasty gas pains, no one likes to talk about it. I figured with summer BBQs and other parties on the rise this is a great time to share my top remedies on how to get rid of bubble guts! Between all the unhealthy foods, alcohol (particularly beer), your stomach is a target for bad bacteria which will make you sick, keeping you away from the summer fun. I am here to give you the best ways to get over it without Pepto Bismol.
I am not a doctor I am merely giving my advice on this matter with my opinions and research of remedies that have worked best for me, these may not work for everyone since everyone’s body is different. Be advised if you have recurrent stomach issues please seek medical help. If you want my natural tips to get rid of your upset stomach and don’t have recurring issues read on.
My top home remedies for upset stomach
Greek yogurt, When my upset stomach hits I reach for Greek yogurt and eat half of a 5.3 oz container- a whole container to help my gut. The times I actually don’t have greek yogurt on a daily basis and have eaten something unhealthy I immediately notice my gut health.
Greek yogurt has good bacteria in it just make sure the brand you buy says it has active live cultures. Not every Greek yogurt out there is actually good for you so keep an eye on that.
Do you hate the taste of Greek yogurt? Make a healthy smoothie, they are a great way to incorporate Greek yogurt into every single day, I personally have a few different smoothies I rotate per week as my lunch. If you are not a smoothie fan I suggest making a parfait with Greek yogurt and fruit so you can still get the benefits. Simple changes like having Greek yogurt in your diet can help stomach issues and make you feel great.
Bananas are another great natural way to help your stomach. When your stomach is bothering you eat one whole very ripe banana. If you have ever had a bad enough stomach issue then you know that doctors generally recommend the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apple sauce, and toast), it is the best way to get your gut health back to normal. I eat at least a half of a banana a day since they are rich in a lot of wonderful nutrients. They have b6, vitamin c, magnesium, potassium, they are just an amazing little fruit to add to your diet. I like to buy a bunch of bananas every week, I then take them out of the peel break them in half and wrap in plastic wrap to use in a smoothie every day. They are great to replace ice in smoothie recipes so it doesn’t get watered down.
Ginger, have you read How to Naturally Relieve a Headache, well if you have then you know why ginger is an amazing little super herb! Aside from helping relieve a headache/migraine, this wonderful plant is one of my favorites in digestive health!
A few times a week I will take a ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger and ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon to make a simple tea. I like to drink this to help reduce bloating or if my husband and I overindulged. If I’m having an unusual day I will drink this tea along with having extra yogurt before bed.
If you prefer not having any ginger or cinnamon remnants I suggest using a 1 tablespoon of ginger paste (or fresh ginger) and half of a 3” cinnamon stick boil it down and strain, if the taste bothers you add some honey.
Water, seriously if you have an upset stomach you should be drinking plenty of water. Water is your friend and although people tend to think its boring and won’t drink it, you are doing harm to your body. Kick the soda habit and drink more water. There are many ways to liven up your water, get a water bottle infuser and add fresh fruits so you can get the nutrients you need. Adding lemon slices to your water will aid in stomach issues as well as promote weight loss. Doctors always say the more water your drink when you have diarrhea the quicker your stomach will heal.
Cinchona Officinalis, this is a great homeopathic product from Boiron that aids in upset stomach relief. I personally love this brand If you have read My Allergy and Sinus Preventive Maintenance Routine, you’ll know this is my go-to homeopathic brand. So if the food remedies are not helping definitely try this homeopathic medicine.
Other home remedies for upset stomach
Mint, I personally haven’t used mint for an upset stomach but it is known to aid in relief, you can easily buy peppermint leaves or buy a peppermint tea to help relieve your symptoms.
Fennel, if you just have gas or bloating and the ginger cinnamon tea didn’t help, try eating raw fennel or drinking fennel tea.
Conclusion
I hope you have found this post helpful! I know we don’t like to talk about our bowel movements but if you’re having stomach problems, take a good look at your diet! If you are eating a lot of bad things, like fried foods, fast foods, sweets, fatty foods, and alcohol, it’s a good time to cut back. If you tend to eat meals late at night that can also upset your stomach. Always make sure you are drinking plenty of water, especially in the summer. If you have any other recommendations I would love to hear from you in the comments.
