Vertigo, that feeling you get when the room is spinning and you can’t stop it! Maybe your trying to fall asleep you put your head on the pillow and immediately the dizziness kicks in, I personally have had my fair share of experiences with vertigo/dizziness. Seriously they are so horrible, I’ve had numerous times where I couldn’t leave the house because of it. Now through the years, I have noticed some reasons it may happen and how to get rid of dizziness naturally.

Growing up in New Jersey the weather fluctuated quite a bit (it still does now even worse). I never noticed how the weather changing affected me but as I’ve gotten older I think I’ve finally figured out my culprit. Since moving to Florida the dizzy spells and room spinning have almost completely stopped. I used to have a lot of dizzy days up north, the school was really hard growing up with vertigo because every time I looked down I’d get dizzy and teachers would get upset that I couldn’t take notes. I would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and the second I turned over vertigo hit! I even had one year where I was absent for an entire week because of vertigo. I didn’t know it then but now there are ways to naturally treat it at home without having to take nasty medications.

What is my culprit you ask?

Environmental changes! No not everyone has the same thing but I am willing to bet anyone who has vertigo and has environmental allergy issues probably has the same culprit. Now I am not a doctor so that doesn’t mean everyone will have the same culprit there are many factors for dizziness/vertigo. If you suffer from bad allergies or sinuses I recommend you check out My Allergy And Sinus Preventative Maintenance Routine. There’s a video for pressure points as well as my favorite natural products.

Most Popular Culprits.

Not enough water, one of the biggest reasons people may be lightheaded or dizzy is dehydration. WATER is so important so make sure you drink plenty of it especially in the summer or when drinking caffeinated beverages.

Migraines, if you suffer from migraines chances are you have definitely felt dizzy or had vertigo. If you suffer from migraines or very bad headaches I recommend you check out my post about How to Naturally relieve a Headache. I have plenty of tips on how to relieve your headache symptoms all without taking a pain reliever.

Do you take multivitamins? Well, you could be low on B12 if you frequently have dizzy spells check with your doctor!

Taking medications? Check the label chances are that could be your problem. If you are experiencing dizziness or vertigo and your medication is to blame let your doctor know, maybe they have a more natural homeopathic way to replace it.

If you are older you may have heart disease and this could be a big side effect, again check with your doctor!

Your hormones can definitely be to blame. If you are pregnant or going through menopause your hormones can definitely be to blame.

Natural Vertigo Treatments

Water, Obviously staying hydrated is one of the best ways to keep vertigo away and to help feel better.

Take B12 if you think that could be an issue.

Healthy Diet, try your best to eat the rainbow! Cantaloupe, strawberries, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, dark green leafy vegetables, green peppers, and broccoli are all great things to incorporate into your diet!

Almonds! This nut is absolutely my favorite, I eat almonds all week long they are amazing for vertigo sufferers! If you don’t already have them in your diet it’s about time you add them! One of the ways I fit them in my diet is my Simple Almond Butter Granola Bars, I also eat oatmeal with almond milk just about every morning. You can easily slip almond milk in place of anything for regular cows milk! If you love almonds that much just grab some Almond 100 calorie packs and eat those and you will slowly be helping your vertigo!

My absolute favorite home remedy for relieving vertigo or dizziness is the Half summersault maneuver by Dr. Carol Foster. This method is different than the popular Epley method and I find it way more effective, I have linked her youtube video below.

Ginger tea! This is one of my favorite things to do when I have a migraine but it also helps vertigo! I boil water and add 1/8 tsp ground ginger and let it sit in the water for 5 minutes before drinking it, you can do this twice a day for your vertigo symptoms if the taste bothers you add some honey!

Gingko Biloba is another big one although I personally have yet to try this, people swear by it. It is a Chinese herb that helps the blood flow to the brain, in result relieving you of vertigo.

Essential oils, one of my favorites to use is peppermint or lavender but lemon and ginger are also very effective. You can boil water and put a few drops of one of these and breathe it in or buy an essential oil diffuser.

Acupressure is an amazing thing and if you take the patience to try it there are many different pressure points on the body to relieve different areas that may be causing you pain, below I’ve linked a youtube video just for vertigo pressure points by Dr. Mandell.

I am not a doctor, I have just had enough dizzy and vertigo days to know what has helped me. These natural vertigo treatments may not work for everyone but when combined they should work for you. I have listed some of the top reasons you may have vertigo and the top ways to help you get through your dizzy spell, it’s up to you to try them out and see what works best for you. • This is just a brilliant post!! My sister had this problem she suffered a lot from migraine. Thank to god she is absolutely fine now. Thank you so much for sharing this helpful post

    • You’re welcome, I wish that no one has to deal with this but at least there are natural ways to relieve it!

  • This is fantastic! I would also like to add stress. My vertigo got real bad when I was under a lot of stress, usually without realizing it, and it would last for days if the stress was not relieved. Glad to know some of the things I have been taking daily, anyways, do help. Now off to another stressful day at work. Thanks! P.S. I’m sharing this!

    • Thank you so much! Yes, I forgot to mention the silent killer there, I’m sorry you’re stressed! Maybe try some lavender Epsom salts in a foot spa or bath, It may help you a little bit.
